How to Fax to an Email Address

Faxes allow people to send documents quickly and easily through a phone line. Many people, however, do not own a fax machine or have access to a phone line. For this reason, many business networking companies have created services that allow senders to fax documents directly to a recipient's email address.

Sign up for a faxing service allows you to receive faxes through email. A growing number of these services are available, so look through search engine results for a list of the most popular services and compare the products. If you need to send a fax to someone through email, ask him or her to sign up for one of these services. Once signed up, the person will be assigned a fax number. Faxes sent to this number will appear in the recipient's email inbox.

  1. Prepare your fax like normal. Compile each sheet of the fax and create a cover sheet. Write the person's name and the number of pages. Writing down the number of pages helps the recipient know if he or she received the entire fax, or if there are pages missing.

  2. Place the fax pages face down on the fax tray and enter the person's fax number. Press "Send" to begin the faxing process. Change the settings of the fax machine to print a confirmation page to ensure the fax goes through properly.

  3. Email the recipient to ensure he or she received the fax. Many faxes appear as PDF documents when sent to email addresses, so the recipient must have a program that reads PDFs.
