A pen can be put up to give an enclosure to your pet, and can offer a good space for your pet if it is designed and put up properly. Dog pens are most commonly seen in backyards and usually have metal mesh fencing as a borderline for the fence. It is important to know how to fence a dog pen to make sure that you make a proper dog pen.

Materials Needed:

  • Spray paint

  • Hole digger

  • Tape measure

  • Gravel

  • Wood posts

  • Concrete

  • Level and wooden braces

  • Circular saw

  • Pencil

  • Fencing

  • Gate hardware

  • Heavy-duty stapler

  1. Use a tape measure to measure and plan an area for your dog pen. Find a backyard space where the dog pen will be most suitable, depending on your needs and preference. Make sure it is also within the zoning laws in your area.

  2. Use spray paint to outline the dog pen on the ground. Make sure to mark the places for the corner and line post for your fence.

  3. Dig 3-feet deep holes for your dog pen posts using a hole digger. Choose either precut wood or metal posts of the height that you need for your dog pen. Be aware, that using wood posts does make it easier for your fence because it can easily be stapled in place.

  4. Place the posts into their holes and cover the bottom with gravel, and put concrete at the top. Use the manufacture’s instructions to make the concrete mix. Check that the posts are level immediately after pouring the concrete. Adjust the posts if needed to secure that they dry straight.

  5. Build a gate using a rectangular wooden design and door hardware for the dog pen. Use 2x4-inch lumber to make a frame for the gate. Cut it down to the appropriate size using a circular saw.

  6. Unroll the chain link fence and begin to attach it to the posts for your fence. Begin at one corner of the post and then move to the next corner and so on. Keep unrolling the fence as you go along.

  7. Secure the chain link fence in place to the wooden poles using a heavy-duty stapler.
