How to Fill a Lawn Roller With Concrete
Lawn rollers are attached to tractors or riding lawn mower and pushed or pulled across a lawn to make it flat and level. They can help level out uneven spots, or flatter dirty mounts that are caused by burrowing rodents. Pouring concrete in the roller barrel will make it heavier and more effective.
- Locate the barrel's filler spout. It should be located on one side of the barrel. Flip the roller on its side so that the filler spout is facing upwards.
- Purchase concrete from your local building supply store. Mix the concrete according to the directions on the bag.
- Place a funnel in the filler spout and pour the concrete into the barrel. Pour it slowly, and allow the concrete to drain out of the funnel before adding more to it.
- Continue until the lawn roller barrel is completely full of cement. Place the plug into the filler hole and allow the concrete to set for several weeks. Check it in two weeks to see if it has set. It can take a long time for the cement to cure, because there is no airflow in the barrel.
- Attach the barrel to the lawn roller, and use it as normal. You can use the lawn roller before the concrete is completely dry, but it will not be as heavy, may be uneven, and will result in the concrete taking even longer to set up.
- After using the lawn roller, you may need to add more concrete to the barrel to make it compact and tight.
