How to Find Causes of Sex Discrimination
Dealing with sex discrimination can be a frustrating process in any situation. As a bystander or manager you should try and understand why a person is sexually discriminating against another individual. This can be a long drawn out process but it is worth with.
- Open up the communication in your school or workplace. Sometimes people are frustrated and they show their frustration through discrimination. Open up the floor and allow people to talk about how they feel. Of course, you should do this in a private place so others are not easily offended.
- Try to understand where the other person is coming from. People can be raised in an environment that causes them to discriminate against someone sexually. Understanding a person’s culture can really help you get to the bottom of their discrimination.
- Look at the perspective of the person who is being discriminatory. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and education and being fair is not always their first priority. However, it does not mean they cannot be taught gender equality.
- Help advise someone that his or her thinking is not culturally sound. One of the ways to find causes of sex discrimination is to understand the person as a whole. Demanding they give you reasons will not get you very far. Take the time to understand who the person is and why they believe what they do.
- Look at social influences that might have persuaded someone to be discriminatory against another sex. The TV and radio could have been vital influences in their decisions.
