Find out the location of the store that has a deal on a motor, to see if it is within driving distance. If you decide to just order the motor online, make sure to look for the shipping cost first. It may be cheaper to buy the motor locally so you can avoid having to pay for shipping.

Call the store and ask if they carry the type of outboard motor that you want to buy. Find out if there are any special deals for the motor before you make a trip to the boat store.
