How to Find Disposable Propane Cylinders

Disposable propane cylinders are lightweight, easy to store and come in handy for weekend trips to the lake when camping. Tanks are small enough to pack in camping gear and easily run lanterns, cook stoves and propane heaters. Learn how to find disposable propane cylinders at home improvement centers, sporting goods stores and websites.

  • Look for disposable propane cylinders in the right type of stores. Check online websites and brick & mortar stores for small disposable tanks. Discount stores such as Walmart, Kmart and Target are good places to check. Even some of the large home improvement stores such as Lowe's and Home Depot have cylinders in stock at very reasonable prices.

  • Visit the Home Depot, which carries the Worthington Pro Grade single propane cylinder in the 16.4 ounce model for as little as $3. Lowe's carries the same brand in a different model for just under $12.

  • Find smaller disposable tanks at Mom & Pop stores for fishing and camping trips or hardware stores and sporting goods stores. Popular sporting goods stores include Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, Outdoors Inc. and Rei.com.

  • Use the Internet to your advantage to find tanks sold online or locate local retailers with both an online presence and B&M stores. This saves you a lot of leg work driving around town and provides brand names and prices.

  • Compare prices using comparison-shopping stores on the net. Nextag.com, Best-Deal.com and Shopwiki.com are all websites that provide comparison-shopping. Type in a search term such as "disposable propane cylinder" or "propane cylinder" on one of these shopping sites and you should see results listing stores that carry cylinders, brand names and prices.
