How to Find Employment at Public Golf Courses
If you love golf, getting a job at a golf course can be a great opportunity to turn your passion into profit. There are many different types of jobs available in the golf industry depending on your background and previous work experience. Find employment at a public golf course by looking for the right type of job for you and impressive potential employers on your interviews.
- Choose your area of interest. While many people automatically picture caddies when they think of golf course jobs, there are many other career paths you can take in the golf course industry including management, groundskeeping, training and design. Before you search for employment at public golf courses, choose the type of job you want to pursue.
- Look for jobs that fit your background and experience. As with any other career field, some jobs in the golf course industry are entry-level while others require experience and a relevant educational background. For example, golf course management and marketing jobs require a strong academic background in business management or business administration. Be realistic about your expectations. If you don’t have any experience but want to break into the golf industry, you can start out as a caddy, and move up later.
- Create a professional looking resume, and post it online. There are many online directories and golf message boards where you can advertise your services. If you don’t have any experience yet, list any skills and classes that make you a good candidate for an entry-level job.
- Contact club managers at your local golf courses to find out about any job openings. If they have a job you are interested in, fill out an application. Include your resume and a cover letter.
- Ace your interview. If you get called for an interview, practice answering questions about your qualifications and abilities with a friend or family member. Arrive at the interview a few minutes early. Be positive and enthusiastic. Ask your interviewer for contact information before you leave, and send a thank you note as soon as possible.
