- Do your research into the types of trees that will do best in the climate that you live in. There are many varieties to choose from and while some fast growing trees will give you a foot of growth per year others can produce 6 - 8 feet of growth. Visit your local nursery and see what types of trees they carry and what they recommend.
- Decide the layout of your trees. Keep in mind that a fast growing tree several years from now will produce many more leaves, nuts and other debris then it will when it is first planted.
- Choose your color palette and coordinate it to the other colors within your yard. Remember that some of them will be at their peak in the spring when they bloom and others will be at their peak in the fall.
- Determine your budget for purchasing your trees. Your budget will determine what size tree that you start with or where you purchase your trees from. While it is nice to be able to choose your trees in person from your local nursery, online nurseries often offer the same type and size of trees for a much lower rate. If you choose to order online be sure that they have a return policy if the tree is damaged in transit or not what you expect.
