How to Find Hip-Hop Dance Music
Hip-hop dance has a number of styles ranging from break dancing, one of the beginning forms of hip-hop dance, to krumping a more current form of hip-hop dance. With all of these dance styles, it is possible to get music to dance to from a number of sources.
- Look at popular hip-hop music. A great way to find hip-hop dance music is to look at what songs are at the top of the music charts. Music services like iTunes and Spotify constantly update what hip hop music is currently popular. Websites like Billboard will not only have the overall top selling tracks but the top in the hip-hop charts as well. Stores will also have displays for the top artists and albums so it is a good idea to check there.
- Ask around. Ask other dance teachers and dancers if they have any ideas for dance music. Also, ask if they have music that you can borrow and listen to.
- Listen to what is around you. If you are stuck in finding a hip-hop song, turn on the radio. When you are out at stores or restaurants pay attention to what songs they play. Use smart phone apps to search for the music you are hearing or write down a couple lines of the song to look up when you get home.
- Watch dance television shows. Many dance television shows feature hip-hop dance. The music that they use for performances can give not only song ideas but also costume and storyline ideas. You can even use the songs you hear to create new remixes and mash-ups.
