How to Find Naturalization Records
Since America is a country of immigrants, anyone who wants to research his or her family history needs to learn how to find naturalization records. The internet provides many options to do so. However, knowing where to find this information will make it a whole lot easier to obtain this information.
- Go to the U.S. citizenship and Immigration Services (uscis.gov) website and look under Genealogy. Then, use any of the two services offered to do your search. One option is doing an index search using biographical information to obtain the information you want. The index search looks for citations regarding a particular immigrant and gives you instructions on how to find this information at the National Archives or through USCIS database for a fee of $20. The site not only has naturalization information, but has alien registration information available as well. The other option offer allows you to request copies of naturalization records and historical information from not only the USCIS genealogy database, but through independent organizations as well. Depending on the type of information you requested, it will cost you anywhere from $20 to $35.
- Visit the Ancestry.com website to find naturalization records. Simply enter the name gender and search using your father, mothers or someone else's name option, and follow the direction to find the information you need. The site will provide naturalization records and other census information. You can take advantage of its 14 day free trial access and later pay for the monthly service, if you find the information provided beneficial.
- Check with your state for naturalization records prior to the early 1900, as naturalization records were a function of the state during that period.
