How to Find Old Truck Cabs
When restoring an old pickup truck, the most important part of the restoration is the cab. If the truck is not pleasing to get into, the restoration job has failed. Finding a cab is not nearly as easy as finding other parts of a truck, but with some determination it can be done.
Use one or several of these steps to find an old truck cab:
- Check for a cab on the eBay Motors website. This site has thousands of car parts for sale, including truck cabs. To yield the best search, look in the "Vintage Car & Truck Parts" category. If you don't live in the same area as the cab that you find, be prepared to travel with a flatbed truck or other large vehicle to pick it up, which could cost hundreds of dollars.
- Visit your local auto junkyard. It may surprise you what types of vehicles are on their lot. If you find the cab that you need, you can make an offer on it. If accepted, you can haul the cab away.
- Make contacts with a vintage car club. You can find auto clubs in your area by visiting a search engine and typing "vintage car club" and you city's name in the search box. By visiting one of their meetings or shows, you can make valuable contacts who can help you in your search.
- Look for local auto auctions in your area. Make sure that you go to one that is open to the public; some are only open to auto dealers. See if they have any cabs that are going to hit the auction block in the near future.
- Visit an auto body shop that specializes in vintage cars or trucks. They may have a contact that can help you with your search. Better yet, they may have a cab available for you to purchase.
