How to Find Quality Pea Coats

A classic style in both women’s and men’s fashion is the pea coat. This coat complements any style of dress, body type and occasion. Finding the right pea coat that will stand the test of time is important. Focusing on the quality and craftsmanship of the pea coat will help in finding the coat that will last a lifetime.

  1. Examine the outer structure of the jacket, also known as the shell. The classic timeless pea coat is crafted from wool. Avoid synthetic materials such as polyester; instead choose cashmere, wool or cotton. These materials will not only wear better but will not show as much pilling as polyester.

  2. Inspect the lining fabric and stitching. The lining of the pea coat should be sturdily sewn to the outer shell with no bunches or gathers. The lining should be void of slack or loose material sections. Shift the arms back and forth to make certain the coat has comfortable ease in the shoulder and back area.

  3. Check the buttons to ensure they are attached firmly by pulling on them. The buttons should be attached with heavy duty thread and colored the same as the pea coat. Look at the coat to see if extra buttons are sewn in the inside or placed in a pocket.

  4. Review the store return policy, as well as the quality of other merchandise for sale. If the quality seems cheap, it would be best to purchase your pea coat from the original source, the military. Originally, a standard issue military garment, it is simple to contact a military surplus store to purchase the coat.
