How to Find Rare Eye Disorders

There are hundreds of different eye disorders and eye diseases that exist. However, some of these disorders are more rare than others and only a small percentage of the population will suffer from these afflictions. In fact, some disorders are so rare it can be difficult to learn more about a particular eye disorder. Intensive research is required to glean more information about specific cases of rare eye disorders.

  • Consult medical and science
journals. The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the
American Medical Association and Lancet are all leading medical
journals that discuss what is current in the medical community. You
can also check the vast amount of archives for each medical journal
    to research a specific illness.

  • Research the Internet. The
Internet has thousands of websites that discuss rare eye disorders
in detail. About.com provides a comprehensive list guide on a
variety of rare eye disorders. Each link provides a brief definition
of the disorder, the causes, symptoms and links to medical trails
that are held throughout the country concerning the specific type of
    disorder.

  • Go to your local library and
research the topic. Libraries provide articles, medical journals and
books that you can check out about rare eye disorders. If you are
having trouble locating the right material, ask a librarian for help
or do a search in the library catalog.

  • Ask a local ophthalmologist. An
eye doctor would be an excellent resource for information on rare
eye disorders. If it is possible, try to schedule a quick interview
with an ophthalmologist and ask them questions about rare eye
disorders. Find out what the most recent cases of rare disorders are
and who is more susceptible to the disease.
