How to Find Shoes for Women
Some women can’t wait to go shoe shopping—the search for the perfect shoes can be fun and exhilarating. However, for other women, shoe shopping can be a chore, resulting in a headache (and sometimes a foot ache). If you want to make finding shoes easier, there are several steps you should take to ensure that the shoe indeed will fit.
- Shop at night when your feet are the largest. As you stand on your feet throughout the day, they expand. If you buy shoes in the morning, you may find that they will no longer fit at the end of the day. It is better to have shoes that are slightly too large than too small.
- Bring any shoe inserts with you that you plan on using in your new shoes and wear the socks or nylons that will be paired with the shoes. It is important that you mimic the same conditions so that you can find shoes that fit properly. Also, if you are matching the shoes to a dress or a pair of pants, it might be wise to wear or bring the article of clothing with you.
- Identify any special needs that your feet have. If you have wide feet or suffer from heel pain, you may need to find special shoes that accommodate your feet.
- Decide on a price limit for the shoes. If you plan on wearing the shoes frequently and on a regular basis, you might feel more comfortable paying a bit more. Conversely, if the shoes are for a one-time event, you may not want to spend a lot on them. However, if it is for a special event like your wedding, go ahead and make the splurge!
- Determine what you will be using the shoes for and plan accordingly. If you are looking for shoes to wear to work, don’t look at running shoes or five inch stilettos. It is important to match the shoe with the purpose.
- Try the shoes on and walk around in them in the store. This is crucial, as if you don’t, you may find after wearing them that they give you blisters or pinch.
- Ask the store about their return policy. Some stores will only accept returns on shoes that have never been worn. If you plan on spending a lot for your shoes, try to find a store that will accept worn shoe returns so you won’t lose a significant amount of money if you find after one day they are not the shoes for you.
