How to Find a Free Fax Number
Instead of spending a lot of money on a fax machine that you may only use every now and then, you can find a free fax number that will send and receive faxes through the Internet. Some of the services are completely free, while others charge a small service fee.
Getting a free fax number can be beneficial if you send or receive faxes occasionally. Instead of investing money on a machine that won't get a lot of use you can easily use your personal computer and a free fax number to send or receive documents.
- Check your printer to see if it has fax capabilities. A lot of newer printers that include scanners can also be used as fax machines. You may need to either install a program on your computer or hook your printer up to your phone line to use this feature. Either way it's free to do and relatively simple. If you aren't sure if your scanner/printer can do this you can look up the model online to get the directions.
- Look for free Internet fax services. Most Internet fax services charge a nominal fee to use monthly. However, a lot of them will offer free trials or free service to those who only use the service a few times a year.
- Call your local phone company. If you use cable phone service you may be able to add a second line for free for several months if you want a free fax number. If you explain it's for faxes only they may have a discounted option.
