How to Use Mindfulness to Treat Mental Disorders

How to Find a Therapist for Mental Disorders

If you are experiencing any mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, mood disorders or any other mental health problems you should attend therapy sessions with a qualified therapist in order to get the treatment that you need to help you improve your daily life and relationships.

  • In order to find the right type of therapist that you need, you will need to decide who will be attending the therapy. You can choose individual, couples or family therapists depending on your needs.

  • It is best to talk over your decision with your immediate family to see if they are open and willing to attend therapy with you. Do not assume that they will automatically attend; it is best to let them know that you would like them to come with you, and do not be disappointed if they do not want to. You can always seek therapy for yourself for now until your family member is more open to the idea.

  • Before you go in to your first therapy session, you should sit down and write out a list of the reasons why you are seeking therapy as well as any problems in your life that you feel are contributing factors to your mental health problems.

  • Use your preferred search engine to perform a search using the key words, "therapist," "psychologist" or "psychiatrist" along with the word "individual," "couples" or "family" depending on the type of therapist that you are looking for. This should provide you with a list of therapist that are available in your area to choose from.

  • If you have insurance, you should contact your insurance provider to see if they can give you a list of therapists that are covered by your insurance along with their address and phone numbers. Let them know the specific type of therapist that you are seeking so that they can find the best match for you.
