How to Find an SAT Preparation Course

A student who is getting ready to graduate will need to prepare for the SAT. While it is not a requirement to take a preparation course for the SAT, a student will usually score higher by putting in the extra time and effort. Asking a school advisor is one of the best ways to find a good SAT preparation course.

  • Find out if your high school offers a free SAT preparation course. If your school does have a free course, make sure to take it. After you take the SAT, if your scores are not as high as you want, you can then decide whether to purchase a preparation course to help you get ready to take the SAT a second time.

  • Contact your academic advisor to discuss the best way to prepare for the SAT. Most advisors will be able to help you decide which course to purchase. Find out the cost of the course to see if you can afford the price.

  • Buy an SAT preparation course on DVD. You will be able to review the material at your convenience many times to help you get ready for the SAT. Read online reviews to help you choose the right SAT DVD to buy.

  • Take a group SAT prep course. Look online or ask your advisor where you can find a group course to take. Compare the cost with the DVD material to see which course is the best value.

  • Work with a private tutor to prepare for the SAT. The cost of hiring a tutor to help you is often high, so talk with your parents to decide if using a tutor is the best SAT preparation method. Since you are allowed to take the SAT multiple times, you can always take it after using other study methods, then decide to hire a tutor if your scores are not as high as you want.
