How to Find Legal Help

How to Find the Best Attorneys and Lawyers

Finding a qualified attorney is often a difficult process. There are many flashy ad campaigns on television that almost scream for your attention. Instead of choosing an attorney based on a television or print advertisement, you should find a qualified attorney through a detailed search

  1. Talk to your friends or neighbors and ask them if they know of a good lawyer. It is often the recommendation of someone that is close to you that will be the best referral that you can find. Ask them frank questions about their experience with the lawyer so that you can decide if they would be a good fit for you.

  2. Look in the Yellow Pages or do an Internet search for a lawyer. Although this will not tell you anything about the lawyer’s credentials, it will help you compile a list of possible candidates. You can whittle this list down as you continue your search.

  3. Look for a lawyer rating website. Understand that there are not many of them available on the Internet because most lawyers are opposed to such sites. However, there are some that you can use, such as Super Lawyers or Findlaw.

  4. Check with your state bar association. They can help give you more information about attorneys in your area. They can also let you know if there are any complaints against a lawyer.

  5. Make an appointment to meet the attorney. Most lawyers will at least give you a free 30 minute consultation to get to know them. Choose a lawyer who will aggressively represent your interests.
