How to Find the SPCA in My Town
The SPCA, or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is an organization whose purpose is to prevent animal abuse. Although this is a large organization with locations throughout the United States, they are always in need of people willing to donate time and money towards ending animal cruelty. If you're interested in contacting the SPCA, you'll want to locate one in or near your town.
- Go online to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) "Find a Shelter" page on their website. This page can be used as a searchable database that contains information on the SPCAs in the United States, and allows you to search for one in you local area as well as other animal control organizations.
- Locate the box on the page that says "Zip OR City, State:" and type in the option of your choice.
- Go to "Radius" and pick the number of miles that you are willing to travel to reach the SPCA nearest the zip code or city that you've selected. Choose the miles from the drop-down box.
- Click the "Go" button to begin searching the ASPCA database.
- Wait for the search to complete. On the map you will see balloons that indicate where the nearest shelters are located. Click on these balloons to open up the associated tag that gives the name and contact information for the selected location.
- Look beneath the map for the names of the area's SPCAs and shelters as well as their locations, contact information in the form of telephone and email address and a link to their website.
- Click on "Map" or "Direction" for detailed information on how to visit the location of your choice.
TIP:
- Locate a nearby SPCA quickly by entering the name of your city or zip code along with “SPCA” in your search engine's search box and clicking the “Search” button.
