How to Get Rid of Black Bathroom Mold

How to Fix Bathroom Mold

Mold thrives in moist areas and finds the bathroom an ideal environment. So, finding ways to prevent mold problems in the first place is your best option. If you do not fix the problem, you ran the risk of having an ugly bathroom, and you can get sick if you have respiratory problems.

Materials

  • Chlorine bleach

  • Laundry detergent

  • Dehumidifier

  • Sponge/rags

  • Spray bottles

  • Vinegar

  • Disinfectant

  • Measuring cups

  • Water

  1. Take all the items you have in the bathroom out of the bathroom including shampoo, blow dryers, curling irons, straighteners, soap cradles and all your medicines out of the cabinets.

  2. Open your bathroom window or turn on the exhaust fan to ventilate the bathroom. Measure one cup of chlorine bleach and four cups of warm water and mix the ingredients together. Add a teaspoonful of your favorite laundry detergent to the mixture. Then, pour the solution into a spray bottle. Take the spray bottle and spray all the fixtures and surfaces in the bathroom including the tub, sinks, faucets, counters, windowsill, mirrors, medicine cabinet and any other items. Make sure you spray into those hard to reach places such as corners and edges. Let the sprayed solution sit on the surfaces for approximately 10 minutes.

  3. Scrub the surfaces after the 10 minutes completely. If you have any tough spots, take a scrubbing pad and scrub. Pretest the area in a small hidden area before you start to make sure you do not scratch your bathroom fixtures. Wipe the area down with a clean sponge and water and dry completely.

  4. Get a spray bottle and add half vinegar and half water and spray your bathroom surfaces. Leave the solution on the surfaces and do not rinse. The acid in the vinegar will prevent future mold problems

  5. Keep the bathroom ventilated because poor air circulation will cause another mold outbreak, so turn on the exhaust fan or open the bathroom window.

  6. Examine your drains occasionally to make sure you do not have slow drainage. Look also for leaks under the sink as part of your routine bathroom check to avoid any mold problems.
