How to Fix Patio Screen Doors
As screen doors are used primarily to keep out bugs and pests, it is very frustrating when one rips or breaks. Many people assume a screen door must be completely replaced if it is broken; however the repair is often not as hard it may seem.
1. Decide how large the hole is that you need to replace. Get a tape measure and measure the hole. This will help you determine how large of a piece of replacement screen to purchase.
2. Buy a piece of screen that is the same color of the screen that you already have. When shopping for the new screen, take along a piece of the old screen to compare. A screen patch that is a different shade from the original screen will be very noticeable.
3. Cut a patch out of the new screen. The patch should be about an inch larger than the hole that you are repairing. If you have more than an inch of extra screen, it will be more difficult to glue the patch onto the screen.
4. Glue the edges of the screen patch to the old screen and press gently around the repaired hole. You will have to hold the screen patch in place for a few minutes until the glue starts to hold.
5. Trim the excess screen. After the glue dries, carefully trip the excess screen away from the old screen. It is important not to puncture the screen while doing this.
