How to Keep Patio Rugs in Place

One of the most annoying things about having rugs in any room is stepping on them and having them slide around on the floor. This can cause serious injury. Keeping them in place can be advantageous for everyone. A lot of traffic in and out of a patio area can cause rugs to dislodge from a position.

There are many ways to keep a rug from sliding on a slick tile, linoleum, laminate or wood floor.

  • Get some double sided tape or grab some tape and fold over to make double sided tape.

  • Before tearing a piece of tape off the roll, flip the rug over so the bottom side of the rug is facing up.

  • Measure or "eyeball" the corners of the rug and tear some tape off the roll, making sure to fold it over on itself to make double sided tape if it is not.

  • Carefully flip the rug over and placing it in the desired spot, pressing the corners onto the floor so that the tape will adhere to it.

Other methods of keeping a rug in place on the floor are adhesive rubber stopper that normally come on the corners of cabinet. Adhere these little black disks to the bottom of a rub to keep the rug from sliding over the floor. This method is great for those who do not want to use tape.  Use mastic on the back of a rug to keep it in place.

Peeling the paper off the mastic and placing on the back of a rug will adhere it to the floor keeping it in the desired place.  If it is allowable use the legs of a table or chair to hold the rug in place; this method is really good for area rugs.

These methods can be used on most rug backings. Rubber backed rugs might need a little extra enforcement to stay in the correct place if the floor is very slick. Preventing injuries or falls by keeping a rug in place is a wonderful idea, especially if there are children, pets or older people that travel the area often. Safety will not be a concern for a rug that is securely in place.
