How to Fix Scratches on a Kohler Sink

Kohler sinks are quality products that maintain their appearance with continued use. They may experience temporary marks that appear as scratches or pot marks. These blemishes are easy to remove using the right cleaning product for the particular sink finish. In the event the sink has a manufacturing defect, refer to Kohler's warranty.

Kohler's cast iron sinks are manufactured with thick enamel that has been fired to resist staining, scratching and chipping. Pots, however, sometimes leave silvery marks on the enamel finish that looks like scratches. These marks can easily be removed.

  1. Purchase Kohler's cast iron cleaner.

  2. Gently rub the product in a circular motion over the surface of the sink with a clean rag or sponge.

  3. Buff and rinse.

For deep or stubborn scratches, Kohler recommends polishing compound manufactured for automobiles.

Kohler's stainless steel sinks may sometimes suffer from light scratches caused by pots, utensils and other kitchenware.  These surface scratches are simple to remove.

  1. Purchase Bar Keeper's Friend stainless steel scouring powder. It is available at most grocery stores.

  2. Make a thick, but not crumbly, paste using the scouring powder and water.

  3. Gently rub the paste on the stainless steel following the grain of the metal with a clean rag or sponge.

  4. Rinse with warm water.

  5. Repeat steps #3 and #4 until all the scratches have been removed.

  6. Regularly polish with Kohler's stainless steel polish or a similar product to maintain the bright, shiny appearance of your stainless steel sink.

Scratch prevention is the best approach. Avoid using particularly hard products or use extra care when washing these items.  Calphalon pots, for example, have a harder surface than other brands.
