How to Fix Slow Computer Graphics
Few things are more frustrating for a computer user than when their graphics card fails to live up to their expectations. Slow computer graphics is obviously a problem for gamers but it can also hamper business applications and graphics arts work. There are, fortunately, many ways to fix the problem of slow computer graphics.
- Stop all unnecessary programs running on your computer, including background processes such as instant messaging programs. Computer graphics may be affected by something as simple as extra software bogging down the system.
- Reinstall or update your computer graphics card driver software. If your driver software is broken it could not only slow down your graphics but it could also lead to crashes.
- Follow the instructions on your computer's user manual to check if your computer's graphics card is integrated into the motherboard. If it is, try installing a peripheral video card and disabling the on-board card. An on-board video card is rarely as powerful as an installed peripheral card.
- If you already have a peripheral computer graphics card, check the fan that is installed on the card. If the fan is not moving then the card may be overheating, which will slow down the card's performance or inevitably render it useless. Blowing out the dust may solve the problem; if this doesn't work or the card has no fan, you might need to replace the card with a new one.
