How to Get Rid of Mice
Mice can make great pets as long as they are purchased from a pet store. Wild mice may look sweet and innocent, but in reality they are very unsanitary and carry many diseases. When left free to roam around your house they leave droppings on things you eat off of and they chew though your furniture and electronics.
- Trap the mouse using either a lethal or non-lethal device. The most common device is the spring loaded mouse trap. This device snaps shut, killing the mouse when the mouse eats the bait food. Even though this is the most common of mouse trap devices, there are several others including humane traps.
- Decide where the most common spots are for mouse activity in your home. These are the best areas to put mouse traps because they may not wander too far from the area if there is plenty of food and crumbs to eat.
- Set the trap of your choosing in the location you have decided was the most active. Read the packaging the trap came in to determine the correct way of using the trap. When setting a trap you should use either peanut butter or cheese as bait. These are some of a mouse's favorite foods.
- Leave the room and turn out all the lights. Mice are very sneaky and wary of humans. If you are still in the room or if they don't have the cover of darkness they may not come out to get caught in the trap.
- Check your trap every few hours or every day if possible. If you do have a mouse in the area chances are it won't take very long to catch it. Once you catch the mouse, reset the trap to make sure there are no other mice. Then dispose of the mouse in the most appropriate way depending on the device you used.
