How to Get Rid of and Prevent Termites
Termites are one of the worst pests when talking in terms of home damages. If you have come to the conclusion that your home is indeed infested with termites, you need to act fast when getting rid of them. The quicker you rid your home of the termites the less damage that will be done to your home. Here is how to get rid of and prevent termites.
- Check your home for damage. Look for places where the wood in your home has been chewed on. You may even find termites while looking. Keep in mind termites are no bigger than a grain of rice so just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.
- Look at all your structural wood as well as any wooden furnishings you have. Look for termite wastes. Termites normally have reddish-brown or black droppings. If you find these droppings termites are very likely still present.
- Determine if termites are actually infesting your home. Once you have looked over your entire house for wood damage and found that there are termites living in your home call the exterminator. Many pest control companies specialize in termites because they are so common as well as such a nuisance.
- Try and get the pest control company to send an exterminator as soon as possible to prevent as much damage as you can to your wood. The exterminator should not only kill the termites that already exist in the house, but use spray that will prevent them from coming back.
- Repair all the damage that was done by the termites. Check everywhere including your plumbing for the damage. If you don't feel comfortable doing this or feel you may not have done a good enough job you may want to hire a professional to do this as well.
