How to Get Satellite TV in a Car
It may seem astounding to some, but automobile and television technology has become so advanced that viewing satellite television in a car is now entirely possible. Though it is certainly not commonplace yet, with the right tools, components and instructions, you can enjoy satellite tv while driving. Of course, this entertainment should only be enjoyed by passengers and not the driver!
Items Needed:
- Mobile satellite kit
- Power drill
- Drill bits
- Screwdriver
- Wrench
- Audio/video cables
Instructions:
- Install the satellite dish antenna onto your car. The dish should come with its own fasteners or screws that can then be used to fasten onto a mounting bracket. The mounting bracket will have to be drilled into the roof (not the headliner) of the car. Secure with bolts.
- Install a television set in the car. The best locations to install it will be either mounted on the ceiling through the car's headliner (between the driver and front seat passenger) or on the front seat headrests. Do not let the television(s) be a potential distraction to the driver. If your car is new enough that it already has televisions installed, skip ahead to step three.
- Remove the headliner.
- Use a hole saw to cut a small opening in the roof. Use the opening to route the antenna cable from the antenna to the interior of the car.
- Place the receiver in a proper location in the car. The location should be dry, free and away from any heat source. Make sure the receiver is not placed near other electrical devices or behind any metal structures.
- Connect the antenna, A/V, DC power and RF converter cables to the receiver. Secure the receiver with bolts.
- Connect the A/V cables from the receiver to the television set.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable for the car.
- Take the positive wire (red) and connect it to the accessory power of the car.
- Take the negative cable (black) and connect it to a metal ground. This will connect the receiver to your car's power source.
- Contact your satellite service provider and activate your satellite service.
