How to Keep Tattoos From Fading

How to Get Tattoos

Tattoos' popularity and acceptance have increasingly grown in the past decade. What was once a rare exception is now seen everywhere. From bikers and rockers, to teenagers and average adults, the social stigma surrounding tattoos has decreased, allowing anyone of legal age to get inked.

  1. Decide what type of tattoo you would like on your body.

  2. Determine where you want the tattoo. They can be placed almost anywhere on the body. Decide if you want everyone to see it, or if you wish to keep it hidden underneath clothing. You may want to talk with your employer before getting a tattoo to check with workplace policy.

  3. Talk with people who have tattoos. Ask where they got theirs and how much it costs. You may not get answers you want, but people’s experiences can prevent making a mistake.

  4. Contact several tattoo parlors. You can find reputable tattoo parlors in your area by searching the listings on MerchantCircle. This site will also allow you to read customer reviews, and may even have a coupon.

  5. Visit several parlors and browse through their designs. Let them know your ideas and what you want. You can also ask about pricing and appointments. Many parlors do not make appointments and complete tattoos in the order walk-ins arrive.

  6. Tell the tattoo artist what type of tattoo you would like and where you want it.

  7. Bring a copy of the design. The artist will need a picture to complete the design.

  8. Relax in the chair and let the artist design on your body. It may sting at first, but the pain quickly fades. Depending on the design and location of the tattoo, it may take the artist 30 minutes to four hours or more to complete the tattoo. Some tattoos are so large or detailed you may have to come back another day.

  9. Tip the tattoo artist before you leave. Give at least 10 percent of the total tattoo price. Cash tips are greatly appreciated by all tattoo artists.
