How to Keep Tattoos From Fading

If you have a tattoo, then you know that the bright colors of your tattoo are going to fade out some over time. This is normal, due to the exposure that your skin gets to the UV rays of the sun. However, there are some things that you can do to prevent your tattoo from fading so quickly.

1. Follow all of the instructions that your tattoo artist has given you when you receive your tattoo. They will let you know what products they recommend that you use to help your tattoo heal up nicely and prevent the color from fading too quickly.

2. Change out the bandage every day after you receive your tattoo, and apply an aftercare ointment to the area each time you change out the bandage. It is important that you add enough ointment that the bandage is not allowed to stick to the tattoo at all.

3. Wash your tattoo regularly at first with antibacterial soap to remove any bacteria, and allow it to get some air before recovering it with a bandage. You do not want to keep the area too moist or it can cause the color to bleed out of the tattoo which will cause your color to fade.

4. Allow the tattoo to heal on its own. Do not pick at it or remove any of the scabs that will form on your tattoo as it heals. Doing so could cause the color to come up with the tattoo and cause your tattoo to look discolored in these areas.

5. Stay out of the sun for the first couple of weeks when you first get your tattoo. If you must go out in the sun, be sure to cover up your tattoo so that it is not exposed, or apply a sunscreen with a high SPF count.

6. Do not submerge your new tattoo in water until it is fully healed. If your tattoo is too moist, it can lose color and will make your colors look muted and faded out.

7. After your tattoo is fully healed, it is still important to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun; this is the main reason that the color on tattoos fade out over time.
