How to Green a Pet Fish

Living green is a great way to preserve our environment. If this is something you would be interested in doing there are several ways it can be done. For example, some people with fish aquariums often green their pet fish.

There are several ways you can green a pet fish by following a few simple instructions.

  • Fill a bucket with clean water. Make sure the bucket has never contained any type of chemicals. Remove the water filter and any decorative items you have in the fish tank and drop them in the bucket filled with water. Any alga that is on the items will wash off in the water. Remove the items from the bucket. Take the water in the bucket and pour it over trees and bushes in your yard.

  • Remove dead fish from your aquarium and bury them outside in your garden. They should be buried deep enough to prevent predators from digging them up. When the fish decomposes it will release nutrients into the soil, which in turn fertilizes the ground.

  • Take the old stones in your fish tank and place them in the bottom of planter pots. Do not remove any algae that may be on the stones. The stones are not only good for drainage, but the plants will also get valuable nutrients from the algae.

  • Pour fish water on your plants or on your lawn. Fish feces make great fertilizer for plants. If the water contains a large amount of algae you may need to add some fresh water so it will not be so thick.
