How to Hang Decor for Kitchen Windows

The quickest way to make a big change in any room is by hanging new curtains. With a kitchen you need to choose carefully; you don’t want to block the natural light. While privacy is a concern, every kitchen needs natural light as well.

Supplies

  • Curtains

  • Curtain rods

  • Nails

  • Hammer

  • Whole putty

  • Touch-up paint

  • Brush

  • Blinds or drop shade (optional)

Directions

  1. Measure the window both vertically and horizontally. Decide what type of curtain you will use and measure for length. Purchase your supplies.

  2. Remove all old hardware from the wall and window panes. Fill holes with putty. Once putty is dry, use touch-up paint to cover putty. Allow paint to dry.

  3. Install shades or blinds on the inside of the window frame. This is an optional step.

  4. Measure and mark where you want the new hardware to go. These should be made on the outside of the window frame, unless you have chosen to use café rods, which are meant to be hung inside the frame. Check to make sure they are level.

  5. Install rod hangers by nailing or screwing them to the wall. Double check that these are both level and securely installed.

  6. Run the rod through the curtains. Repeat if you have chosen to use both a valance and café length. Attach the rods to the hangers previously installed.

  7. Adjust curtains as needed to achieve your desired look. If you want a more open feel, use tie backs to secure the curtains to the side of the windows.
