How to Hang a Patio Planter Box

A patio planter box can greatly enhance the appearance of a patio. Some people choose to hang the boxes rather than leaving them on the floor so that it does not decrease the amount of floor space. Hanging patio planter boxes look great mounted to walls, fences and along the tops of rails and it is fairly simple to do.

How to Hang a Patio Planter Box

  1. Determine the location where you want to hang the planter box and hold the box up to the location. Make sure the chosen location can accommodate the mounting hardware. The best locations would be under windows, from the top of railings or between posts on a fence.

  2. Use a measuring tape to determine the center of the mounting place and mark it with a marker.

  3. Position the hanger so that the center is on the mark you have made.

  4. Use a level to ensure that the hanger is even.

  5. Use a stud finder to locate the stud if you are hanging it on a wall.

  6. Hold the mounting hardware against the wall and place the tip of the marker in the holes to mark the spot.

  7. Use a drill to put holes in the spots you have marked for the hardware.

  8. Place a washer on the lag bolt and one washer between the wall and the mounting hardware. This is done to create a drainage gap.

  9. Use an adjustable socket wrench to tighten the lag bolt.

  10. Place the planter box on the mount.
