How to Hook Up Reverse Osmosis Systems
Reverse osmosis systems are used to remove chemicals and certain minerals from drinking water. An osmosis system consists of a tank and a filter that help clean the water and provide a sufficient amount for everyday use. A reverse osmosis system is normally attached to a kitchen sink.
Items Needed:
- Reverse Osmosis Kit
- Drill
- Screws
- Screwdriver
- Bolts
- Use a drill to make a hole in your sink next to the faucet. If there is already an extra hole on your sink, you can use it. Attach the water dispenser to the hole. It will screw into place.
- Check underneath the sink to a location to install the filter assembly system. Any area that is not being used or is not overcrowded will work fine. The reverse osmosis kit will come with installation hardware. Use this to mount the filter assembly to the cabinet or wall.
- Turn off both the hot and cold water and the main water shutoff valve. Turn the knobs to the "On" position and allow all the water to empty out of the lines.
- Drill a small hole in the cold water line. Attach the saddle valve that is included in the kit to the hole, and use a screwdriver to tighten the bolts that hold it in place.
- Stick the water supply lines up through the hole in the sink. Pull them through the water dispenser, and use a screwdriver to tighten the bolts that hold the water line to the water dispenser.
- Attach the other end of the water line to the drain line adapter, located underneath the sink.
- Place the water storage tank underneath the sink, and attach the tank line to the filter assembly.
- Turn the main water valve back on and allow the water to fill up the tank. Flush the system to clean it and allow the tank to fill up again before using the reverse osmosis system.
