How to Hook Up X10 Cameras and Motion Sensors

Home security systems have become increasingly popular, as crime rates rise across the country. While people opt for more expensive alarm or monitoring services, many prefer to set up a reliable home security system themselves, saving money on installation and maintenance.

  1. Set up a power system for the camera you are using. For most efficient operation, set it up adjacent to an outlet, while considering a battery back-up so it continues to work in a power failure.

  2. Position the camera where it can be most effective, keeping in mind that it still needs to be close to the power outlet. Included with the cameras are brackets that enable you to place them on the wall. This can be done rather easily, drilling a hole where and screwing the mounting brackets into the wall.

  3. Set the camera into position on the bracket attached to the wall, along with the fixture (this includes the motion sensor). Make sure that the camera has a good range of motion and picks up images at a good distance so that it is useful for its intended purpose.

  4. Attach the receiver for the camera to your recording equipment (DVR or VCR). You need to attach the receiver to the VCR using cables that carry the video to the recorder. Test the image by using the video's channel for viewing. Make necessary adjustments so that the image is clear and useful for recording to avoid hazy or unclear images.
