How to Use GSM Home Automation
Home automation is the ability to control household appliances and lighting remotely. It is analogous to office and factory automation. You can control your home appliances using a GSM remote control, which is a wireless switch that is connected to the GSM phone network. It has many applications in the home such as opening gates automatically along with controlling the central heating unit and lighting.
Items Needed:
- GSM Micro-controller
- SIM Card
- Buy a GSM micro-controller. This can easily be found in most stores that sell automation accessories.
- Screw the antenna that came with the micro-controller to the appropriate socket in the device.
- Insert an unlocked SIM card into the correct slot in the micro-controller. Ensure that the SIM card is not locked to any particular provider so that you can easily change it as you wish.
- Connect the power supply from the micro-controller to the appropriate power supply. Check the power ratings and be sure they match with that of the wall socket or the power supply.
- Connect the home appliance you wish to control to the power output connections of the micro- controller. The connection interface is usually labeled; the positive terminal of the micro-controller goes to the positive terminal of the device and vice-versa.
- Call the SIM card installed in the micro-controller using the number of the SIM card to be sure it is working well. Follow the steps in the user’s manual that came with the micro controller to set up an administrative account. After setting up the admin account, you can decide the functions you want to automate.
