How to Host Streams for Internet Radio
Creating your own Internet radio stream is not a difficult process, especially with the increased level of technology. This process does not have to be expensive, and it allows you to use your creativity to create a station that is specific to your likes.
- Download the necessary programs you will need in order to make this project successful. You will need Winamp, Oddcast and Icecast in order to create your Internet radio stream.
- Configure your settings for the Icecast plug in by launching the Winamp program and going under Preferences. Once you have located the appropriate plug in, open the configuration option, change the password and write down the port number.
- Add an encoder. In order to do this, you will need to start the server, open the option of DSP and add the encoder to the Oddcast option.
- Configure the settings by right clicking on the blank spot and selecting “Configure."
- Choose the encoder that will allow for smaller files. These files will not lose quality, and the encoder should be named OggVorbis.
- Select a number less than six for the quality level. If you go for the wrong level of quality, the amount of people who are able to listen to your radio station will be limited.
- Insert the port number into the appropriate location under the Server IP. In order to gain access to this part of the computer, go through localhost.
- Connect to the server and insert the music files into your playlist. Once all of your songs have been entered, simply click “Play” and you will be streaming your own Internet radio station.
