How to Host a Children's Party

Hosting a party for a bunch of children is always a very busy task. It is also usually a great deal of fun. Having a number of children over for a party all at one time can be exciting for them and nerve racking for the parent. However, it can also be one of the most memorable events so it is important to learn the best way to prepare.

  1. Take the first step and sit down and make a checklist with all of the things needed to get ready for the party. The basics like plates, silverware, napkins, tablecloths, cake, decorations and favors should be included.

  2. Decide what type of party your child would like. Help them by discussing their favorite toys, sports teams, colors, foods, movies, super hero or action figures. The theme will help you decide what decorations and favors to purchase.

  3. Decide on the number of children to invite. Too many children could make you feel overwhelmed during the play portions of the party so be sure to plan accordingly.

  4. Buy or make invitations. Incorporate the theme into the invitations.

  5. Create a food menu. Have the food be simple and easy to work with in a quick amount of time with a house full of children. Pizza, hot dogs or hamburgers are always great staples for a party that requires food.

  6. Plan for the birthday cake. If buying the cake, order the cake and keep it within the lines of the theme of the party. If making a cake buy all items needed for the decorations to match the party theme.

  7. Plan a schedule for the party of how things are going to go step-by-step. Include games, breaks for foods, breaks for opening presents and activities to keep children occupied so boredom does not set in. Examples are different tables with little fun things to do like easy crafts, face painting, little girl makeovers and balloon animals.

  8. Make some of the food ahead of time instead of the morning of the party as this will save on time and help keep the parent with the kids instead of being occupied with something else. The food needs to be placed on the table soon after the children arrive to make it simple.

  9. Put away all valuables that are breakable and other important things to child proof the home before the kids arrive the day of the party.

  10. Enjoy the party with the children after all your hard work and planning.
