How to Plan a Children's Party on a Budget
Despite what most parents might think, it is possible to plan a great children's birthday party on a budget. Many times, parents will go into debt, because they feel like they have to spend a lot of money on their child's special day. There are many party places and other venues that provide space for birthday parties at reasonable prices.
- Have the party at home. This is, by far, one of the best ways to keep your budget within control. If you have your child's party at home you don't have to worry about paying extra fees like deposits and room rental fees.
- Make your own party decorations and favors. Although you can buy these items cheap at places like Target, Walmart or Party City, making your own party favors saves you more money in the end. It can also be a fun task for you and your family to do together. Find old construction paper, confetti and holiday decorations to decorate your home for the child's birthday party. Buy a cheap pack of balloons and string them up around the house.
- Serve inexpensive food. Food can be one of the main budget busters at any celebration. Buy foods that children really enjoy like pizza, chicken fingers and hamburgers. Not only can you serve these foods in large portions, but these foods are also cheap.
- Bake the cake yourself. Birthday cakes can be very expensive. You can save money by making your own birthday cake and decorating it. Make sure that you bake a cake that is large enough to feed all of your guests.
- Provide entertainment. Birthday guests want to be entertained while they are at a party. Set out some games that people can play like Monopoly or Clue. Gear the entertainment toward your child's age. If it is a young adult, the kids might be more interested in listening to music with their friends or watching a movie.
