How to Paint Plastic Tableware

How to Identify Tableware

Tableware, whether it is fine china or everyday dinnerware, is often sold in place settings or larger sets. This is a convenient and cost-effective way to purchase tableware, but it can present a problem when a single piece is broken. Identifying your tableware will help you to replace any lost or broken pieces.

  1. Search for the name of the manufacturer. Often times you will find the company's name or logo on the back of a plate, dish or bowl. The name is often small and discrete, and may only be a raised word or logo that will signal you to the name of the manufacturer. If you find that your tableware features a logo rather than a name, do an Internet search to find the company name that corresponds to that particular logo.

  2. Look for a pattern number. When you locate the name or logo, look nearby for the pattern number. Many sets of tableware feature a unique pattern. You will need to match this pattern when replacing a piece of the tableware set. The pattern number is often found near the company's name or logo.

  3. Describe the pattern on the tableware. If you cannot locate a pattern number on the tableware, review the front of the tableware to identify the design that was used. Cross patterns, vines or even colors can all signal you to find the manufacturer's pattern name.

  4. Compare this information to the company's website. Search the Internet to locate the manufacturer's website. Search the site using all of the information that you have available in order to locate and identify the tableware set. The website will often have instructions on purchasing replacement pieces, as well.
