How to Install Edging for Landscaping
Adding edging to your landscape or flowerbed can help frame the project and keep weeds from growing in or around it. It can also add a touch of style to your landscape. Edging is fairly inexpensive and easy to install.
Items Needed:
- Edging
- Rototiller
- Shovel
- Purchase edging that is the right length and height for the area you are placing it around. The edging should be long enough to cover the entire area. It should not be higher than the flower or plants it will be trimming.
- Use as rototiller to remove any roots, weeds or large clumps of dirt that may be present in the area. This will give you a fresh area to work with.
- Use a shovel to dig a ditch around the area. The ditch should be about 5 inches deep and will help prevent weeds from growing in or around the area. You can also spray weed killer around the area to kill an existing weeds and prevent new ones from growing.
- Place the edging in the ditch. Straighten it and fill in dirt around the base of the edging. The dirt will help hold the edging up and securely in place.
- Fasten each end of the edging to the next piece to connect them and form one long piece. You can bend and mold the edging around trees, porches or lights if needed.
- Fill in the flower bed or area of the landscape you have placed the edging around with dirt. Use the shovel to pack the dirt against the base and sides of the edging. Plant flowers or plants as desired.
