How to Install Gymnastics Equipment

Professional gymnasts require regular training and practice to stay at the top of the game. Most work daily at a gym with a personal trainer, but many gymnasts want certain types of equipment installed in their homes as well. Gymnastic rings and floor mats can increase upper body strength and balance, and they can be easily installed in any home or office.

What you will need:

  • Gymnastic rings

  • Floor mats

  • Measuring tape

  • Yarn or string

Gymnastic Rings

  1. Locate a good spot to hang the items from.  Ideally, it should be an anchor point such as a ceiling rafter or tree branch.  Choose a location with at least six to eight feet surrounding it.

  2. Test the strength of the overhead anchor point by hanging from it.  If the rafter, branch or other object sways or rocks from your weight, a different one should be used.

  3. Use the measuring tape to determine the distance between your shoulder blades.  Add 2 inches to your measurements, and then hang two pieces of yarn or string from each spot on the anchor point.

  4. Tie the gymnastic rings to the end of the yarn, and stand between them to make sure they're hanging from the right height and distance.  Make any needed adjustments, and then attach the ring straps to the anchor point.  Attach the other ends to each ring, and then remove the yarn.

Floor Mats

  1. Use your measuring tape to find the size of your floor mats. This helps you determine the best place to set them. Place the floor mats in a level area if you intend to use them for stretches and floor routines or underneath the gymnastic rings if you want them to serve as safety paddings.
