How to Laminate Floor Under Door Frames

How to Install Hollow Metal Door Frames

Hollow metal door frames are actually installed when the walls are being framed. Once the door's body is in, the studs for around the door are installed. These metal doors can seem like a difficult process, however, if you have the correct tools and know the steps involved, this can actually be done in under 20 minutes.

  1. Buy a door frame set from a local hardware store. These should have the metal frame and necessary clips.

  2. Install three door clips onto each leg of the frame. One should be installed about a foot from the bottom, another one in the middle of the frame, and the third clip near the top, about a foot from the top edge.

  3. Use a magnetic level to set the door frame in its position. Move the metal door frame into the opening in the wall, moving the legs until the level indicates the frame is completely level.

  4. Take a hammer drill and masonry bit to attach the floor plates from the door frame into the concrete base of the building. It is important to wear goggles during this process. Drill two holes through each floor plate. Use 1/4-inch-by-3/4-inch long drive pins.

  5. Have a partner hold the door frame in place while drilling to ensure it remains level.

  6. Take metal studs and slide them onto each door frame's side so they line up with the three clips each. Center the frame on the wall studs. Attach the studs to the upper clips from the metal door frame by clamping tightly with the c-clamps.

  7. Drill through the clips and the studs with a drill and two self-tapping screws. Make sure they are secure.

  8. Attach the two remaining clips on each side to the studs. Follow up with more self-tapping screws on each clip. The door frame is then completely secured to the wall.
