How to Laminate Floor Under Door Frames
Laminate floors set off a room and create the foundation for the decor of your home. Getting the laminate under those odd, tight places such as door frames give the project a professional look. A little time, knowledge and proper technique can help you install your laminate floor seamlessly into the nooks and crannies of the edges of the floorboard.
Materials.
- Scrap laminate flooring
- Handsaw
- Nails
- Hammer
- Measuring tape
- Glue
Procedure.
- Understand the basic construction of a door. You have a 10mm expansion gap between the door jamb and the floor. That is the key to laying a seamless laminate flooring under a door.
- Lay the floor from the center of the room to the edge of the wall.
- Secure the door jamb with nails to keep it from moving as you trim it.
- Saw the bottom of the door jamb to where the floor will end. Do not cut off too much of the door jamb, just enough to add a couple of millimeters to the 10 mm gap to fit the laminate. You are looking for a close fit, with minimal gap.
- Measure the edge of the laminate you just laid and the distance under the door.
- Cut the strip of laminate to that exact measurement.
- Glue the back of the laminate floor to be laid under the door.
- Slide the laminate under the door, being careful to not get glue on the already laid floor.
- Use acetone to remove excess glue that has gotten onto the laminate.
- Place the tongue of the laminate facing the jamb, the groove facing the floor.
- Slide the groove under the tongue underneath the door jamb.
