How to Install House Windows
New windows can help your house become a lot more energy efficient. This job shouldn't be very difficult, but it will take some time. Removing the old windows might be tough, especially if they haven't been replaced in a long time.
Things You’ll Need:
- Tape Measure
- Electric Screw Driver
- Screws
- Caulk
- Write down the dimensions of the window or windows you’re replacing. It's best to measure the window outside; you'll get a more accurate length.
- Purchase a new window that is the exact measurements as your current window. You might need to specially order the window from a dealer over the phone. It's a good idea to talk with an expert at a local home care store about what brand of window they recommend. Certain windows will work better with certain types of homes and climates.
- Remove your current window and make sure the entire frame comes with it. Remember how the old window was attached.
- Remove and clean all four sides where the window was just removed. Any loose debris or dirt might cause the new window to not fit properly.
- Install the new window just like the old one. Wooden framed windows will screw in easily. If you house is made of brick, place wooden block between the window frame and brick wall. You can then screw the frame to the wooden blocks. You probably already have existing wooden blocks if your walls are brick.
- Seal your windows frame by caulking it. Caulk can also be easily found in home care stores and is easy to apply. This will help prevent any air or water from seeping through.
