How to Install Picket Fence Panels
Picket fences are a great way to add classic style to your home. They are functional and beautiful, offering privacy to the property. Picket fences can be made of wood or PVC. Vinyl or PVC fences are fairly easy to install. They are also cheaper and easier to maintain as compared to wood fences or metal fences. Installing PVC picket fences adds value to homes. Pre-assembled panels are purchased and installed between fence posts.
Tools Needed
- PVC panels
- Rail brackets
- 2-inch pen drill
- Screws
- ¾-inch spacer blocks
- A pen
- Wooden stakes
- Hammer
- A roll of construction string
Instructions
- Clear the area where the fence will be installed of any plants or debris.
- Drive wooden stakes into the ground using the hammer, to mark the location of each corner of the fence.
- Tie a string from one stake to the other to create a straight line to follow during installation of the fence.
- Place four spacer blocks on the ground, put the panel on the blocks aligning it between the fence posts. Ensure the rail hanger bracket on the back of the panel is resting against the fence posts.
- Mark the points where the bottoms of the rail hanger brackets meet the posts using the pen.
- Place a rail bracket next to the post with the bottom resting on the mark you made.
- Drill two ¾-inch screws into the bracket to attach it to the post. A bracket should be connected to each line.
- Insert the rails into the brackets on the fence panel. Fit the rails into the brackets on the posts. Lift the panel, and then lower it to secure the rail.
- Drill screws through the side of the bracket and the rail, securing the panel.
- Remove the spacer blocks. If the fence panels have been set in concrete, you can leave the spacers for two more days before you remove them.
