How to Install Printing Services

Printing services that are installed on servers within the Windows operating system allow UNIX clients to be able to print through the use of Windows servers. Operating systems that are designed and developed by Microsoft already come with the necessary protocol that is needed for these print clients.

  1. Open the Control Panel to load the module. The protocol is not a default installation, so you will need to manually open it. In order to do this, simple click “Start” and navigate to the button for the Control Panel and open it. Locate the “Add/Remove Programs” icon from the management console list and open.

  2. Click on the tab that opens the Windows components by clicking “Windows Components”. Once you have clicked to go to this tab, you will then have access to the list of components that are already installed on the server computer.

  3. Open the window that allows you to view the printing services that are available on your operating system. In order to do this, simply click to open the other network file and print services and select the “Details” button. Once you have selected this button, you will then have a list of the printing services that you have available to install.

  4. Locate the specific service you want to install and select “OK”. For instance, if you want to install “Print Services for UNIX”, simply check the box next to that service and click “OK”. There is no need for you to reboot your system since the changes are set to take effect right away.
