How to Install Wire Shelving

Wire shelving helps to tame your closet clutter. It is a storage system which can be easily changed whenever your storage needs may change. Wire shelving is less bulky than wood and provides better ventilation to the items you are storing. It is easy to install and anyone with a few tools can accomplish the project.

Supplies

  • Level

  • Tape Measure

  • Stud Finder

  • Pad and pencil

  • Drill

  • Screwdriver

  • Wire shelving kit

  1. Use your tape measure to take your closet's measurements.

  2. Write down the measurements. Draw out a rough sketch of your closet and the places where you want to install the shelves.

  3. Purchase a shelving kit from a home-improvement or hardware store.

  4. Refer to the kit's installation instruction on how to put the shelves together. This will vary depending on the brand you purchase.

  5. Place the shelves onto the tracks.

  6. Methods for mounting the shelf to the wall will depend on the construction material of the wall. For example, block walls use a plastic anchor system to mount the tracks, while drywall requires a bolt and clip system.

  7. Mount the shelf on the wall according to your determined method. All items required for attaching your shelf to the wall should come with your shelf installation kit.

  8. Place your other shelves in your pre-determined locations in the same manner until you have installed all of your shelves within your closet. Be sure to leave 12 to 16-inches of spacing between the shelves for ventilation.

  9. Check each shelf after installation to make sure it is level.
