How to Install a Coleman AC Drip Pan
Coleman is one of the largest manufacturers of central air and heating systems. It is not uncommon for moisture to collect on the condensing coils, which will eventually cause water to drip from the unit. It is recommended that a drip pan be installed to catch the water.
Installing a drip pan on a Coleman air conditioning system is something you can easily do yourself by following a few simple steps.
- Go to the main fuse box in your home and shut off the breaker that runs the power to the air conditioning system.
- Locate the condensing unit for the air system. It is usually located in either the attic or crawl space of your home.
- Locate the drip pan for the unit, which will be a flat pan lying directly below the condensing unit. There will be a PVC pipe connected to the drip pan.
- Use a hack saw to cut the PVC pipe to separate it from the pan. The pipe should be cut as close to the base of the connection to the pan as possible.
- Remove any water that may be in the drip pan. The easiest way to do this would be to use a wet vac to suck it out.
- Gently lift up the condensing unit and have a helper slide the old drip pan from under the unit.
- Slide the new drip pan in place while the unit is still lifted.
- Gently lower the condensing unit back in place.
- Apply some PVC glue on the end of the PVC connector.
- Attach the connector to the drain hole located on the drip pan.
- Allow the glue sufficient time to completely dry, which should take approximately 30 minutes.
- Turn the breaker back on to the unit once the glue has dried.
