How to Install a GMC Truck Engine Mount
Having an engine mount that is not functioning properly on any vehicle can cause serious damage. If you own a GMC truck, this type of problem can cause the truck to be very uncomfortable to ride in, due to the constant vibrations. This can also cause damage to the other mount. It is recommended that you fix this problem as quickly as possible to save yourself the cost of any more damage to your truck.
- Make sure you have the right tools to complete this job. You will need to have an engine hoist and a chain.Make sure the chain is at least four foot. This job will require using heavy equipment so it may be best to have someone assist you.
- Bolt the two ends of the chain to the engine. Make sure that the engine is supported before you go any further. Using a jack, raise the hoist to lift the engine, but do not remove it.
- Remove the engine mount bolt. This is the bolt that goes front to back. Do this step by using a ⅜-inch ratchet and socket and an open end wrench. After you remove this bolt, the engine should be supported by the hoist.
- Raise the hoist a little more to make the engine tilt. You want to move it so that it is not touching the other mount. This will give you more room to work.
- Use the ⅜-inch ratchet and socket set, unbolt the mount from the frame. You may also need to use of a universal joint or a 3/8-inch extension.
- Install the new engine mount. This is done by reversing the steps that you have just taken to remove the old mount.
