How to Install a Satellite Dish
A satellite dish enables you to get cable TV in your home. You must be knowledgeable about satellite and the coordinates for the structure it is mounted on in order to install a satellite dish. Before you begin to mount a satellite to your home, check with your homeowner's association for any guidelines for restrictions.
Materials Needed:
- Drill with 3/8-inch bit
- 2 satellite coaxial cables
- Fixing or mounting bracket
- Satellite meter
- Level
- Check with your satellite service provider to find out what position the satellite needs to face in order to receive a signal.
- Figure out the coordinates of the structure that you will be mounting the satellite dish on. You will know which wall you need to mount the dish on by not only the coordinates of the structure, but also the location of the satellite's orbital path.
- Get to the outside structure by drilling a hole in the wall. To prevent water and precipitation from entering into the hole, make sure to drill the exterior hole lower than where the interior hole is located.
- Mount a fixing bracket to the exterior wall to help support the mast that holds the dish. Use a level to line the bracket up and then secure it using anchor screws. Also, use a level to make sure the mask is straight on both vertical sides.
- Secure the disc to the mast by slightly turning the bolts. Make sure the bolts are not yet tightened completely.
- Connect a satellite coaxial cable to the eye of the dish, also known as LNBF.
- Assemble the LNBF carefully and take the other end of the coaxial cable and connect it to a satellite meter. Adjust the dish's vertical alignment and slowly tilt the dish to the left and right until you find the strongest signal on the meter.
- Secure the dish in place after you find the strongest signal by tightening the bolts. The meter should remain connected to the other end of the coaxial cable until after the dish is tightened in place. This ensures that the dish remains in the correct positioning when it is being tightened.
- Connect the coaxial cable to the receiver once you run the cable from the exterior of the house through the previously drilled holes. Use a coaxial cable to connect the receiver to the TV.
- Turn on the TV and the receiver. Follow the channel set up as you are prompted. Refer to the owner's manual if needed.
